TELEPHONES

Public Telephones
The telephone system is run by the state under the name of Telefonica. Most Hotels, Bars and Restaurants, maintain on their premises a telephone for individual public use. The charges applied by these establishments are normally higher than the applicable rate and sometimes can be excessive! There are instructions available in the English language on how to use the telephone in Spain and these can be heard by pressing the Language Button.

Reverse charge calls are not allowed to be made from Call Boxes, nor are they allowed to receive calls.

Phone Cards
These can be attained from Tobacconists for use in Card operated telephones. If using cash to make a call it is advisable to have a number of small change coins available prior to using the phone. International and national telephone calls are less expensive after 22.00 hrs during the week, and after 14.00 hrs on Saturdays, and all during the whole of Sunday.

All Spanish numbers consist of nine digits and the first three indicate the Area Code. In the case of the major cities and Provinces the first two digits apply.

The International Code to call into Spain from any another country use the digits “00344”
